- What is the U-Maths Alumni Association?
- A membership body run by and for former pupils of the University Maths Schools, the specialist sixth forms for mathematics that opened across England from 2014. It exists to keep alumni in touch with each other and with their schools: a directory, reunions, mentoring for current pupils, and careers events.
- Who can join?
- Anyone who left a University Maths School, from the first leavers of 2016 onwards. Membership is free. Current pupils cannot join while they are at school, because everyone on the membership list is an adult who chose to be there.
- Which schools are covered?
- All eleven schools in the network: Exeter, King's College London, Liverpool, Lancaster, Cambridge, Imperial College London, Leeds, Surrey, Aston, Nottingham and Durham. Exeter and King's opened in 2014 and have the most alumni; several of the newer schools are still waiting for their first leavers.
- Does it cost anything?
- No. Membership is free. There is an optional supporter tier at £15 a year for people who want to cover the running costs, which are modest: filings, insurance and the software the association runs on.
- Is the association run by the schools or by U-Maths?
- No. It is independent and alumni-run. It works alongside the schools and the U-Maths network, and it hopes to be useful to both, but it does not speak for them and they do not run it.
- How do I join?
- Ask for an account on the member site. We check that you are a former pupil of one of the schools, then send a sign-in link to the email address you gave. There is no password to remember: every sign-in is a fresh link.
- Where does the association get people's details from?
- From the people themselves, and from what is already public: the schools' own alumni stories, and professional profiles people have chosen to publish. Nobody is bought from a data broker, and nobody is contacted until they have said they want to be. The privacy notice explains this in full.
- Can I have a public profile on this site?
- Yes, if you are a member and you ask for one. Public profiles are opt-in only: you write the words, you choose the links, and you can have it taken down at any time.
- How do I get my details removed?
- Ask, and they are removed. Members can delete their own account from the member site. Anyone else can use the contact form, and we will confirm when it is done.
- I teach or work at one of the schools. Can I be involved?
- Please do. The association wants to be useful to the schools first of all. Staff membership is planned; for now, get in touch through the contact form and we will find the right way to work together.
