An alumni association, built by alumni
The U-Maths Alumni Association exists so that the people who left the University Maths Schools can find each other, help the pupils who came after them, and have a say in what their schools' alumni body becomes.
In short
The association is an independent membership body for former pupils of the eleven University Maths Schools. It was founded in 2026, it is free to join, and it is run by volunteers who are alumni themselves. It is not part of the schools or of U-Maths, the network the schools belong to, and it does not speak for them.
Why now
The first two maths schools, Exeter and King's College London, opened in 2014 and sent their first leavers out in 2016. A decade on, each has hundreds of alumni, nine more schools have opened or are opening, and the people who left the earliest cohorts are now far enough into their careers to be worth a great deal to the pupils who are choosing theirs. No alumni body existed. This is it.
What it does
- Keeps alumni in touch, through a members-only directory that each member controls.
- Connects alumni with current pupils: mentoring, talks, careers evenings and admissions advice, arranged with the schools.
- Brings people together, at reunions by cohort and by city, and at socials that mix the schools.
- Shows the network to itself: dashboards of where alumni studied, what they do and where they live, in aggregate and from consented data.
How it is organised
The association starts as an unincorporated body with a written constitution, and intends to incorporate as a community interest company once it has a year's track record and enough members to need one. Its running costs are a few hundred pounds a year; the supporter tier exists to cover them, and the accounts will be published to members.
It is designed to federate. Each school's alumni are a chapter with their own identity, and a school whose alumni want to organise on their own terms can do so inside the association rather than by building another one.
Who is behind it
The association was started by Rose Traviss, who works on data and insights for U-Maths and is its founding organiser. Everyone involved so far is a volunteer. If you would like to be one, the contact page is the place to start.
How it handles data
The association's records are assembled the careful way round. Nobody is bought from a data broker; nobody is contacted until they have said they want to be; nobody under eighteen is on any list, ever. Members can see everything held about them, correct it, and delete it. The privacy notice sets this out in full.
